Since 2012, the Mestizo Collectief has been preserving and renewing the “Altar van Antwerpen.“
In 2020, as part of the Antwerp Altar, the performance A Guide Through Time and Space took place. The result is a tour conceived from the perspective of six Latin American artists. The tour begins at the traditional Mexican altar, moves through the art collection of Dora and Paul Janssen (MAS Museum), and concludes with the Antwerp Altar. From this performance, Colección (Collection) emerged—a series of videos that document and preserve the experience. It offers a reflection on the history of the original cultures of Latin America while questioning what collections are, what they tell us, what deserves to be preserved, and how objects and stories relate to each other.
