In the run-up to Osten festival, we visited various communities in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, discussing cultural questions and different tastes while collecting recipes and their regions of origin.
What’s new, what’s familiar? How do you prepare it? And where do the ingredients come from? Did everything taste better in the past or today? When we talk about food, we talk about enjoyment, everyday life, the past, family, money, migration, origins. We talk about old and new, scarcity and abundance, travel and much more.

With our project, we invited people to take part in the festival in a different way: Bitterfeld residents for whom the distance to Wolfen felt too far; Wolfen residents who did not feel addressed by art festivals; and people who speak German as a second or third language—in short, people who could tell us a great deal about this city.
Commissioned project for Osten Festival.
