The market in Bitterfeld is an ancient crossroads on the winding paths that the city has taken throughout its history. The weekly market is still held here today. When asked for their personal map of the city, there are as many answers as there are people living in Bitterfeld. Even though everyone travels the same streets, drivers see Bitterfeld differently than wheelchair users, and schoolchildren see different things than shop assistants. Lucila Guichon has long been involved in developing cartographies that make places visible from different perspectives. For the first OSTEN festival, she spent a day at the Bitterfeld market talking to people who live there or are visiting, to those who still remember Bitterfeld between the chemical plant and the open-cast mine, and to those who only know the Goitzsche as a lake. Together with her conversation partners, she has developed a multi-layered map that tells the story of life in Bitterfeld. In the studio for mutual interest at the Kulturpalast, she and some of those who took part used the maps to explain their view of the city. + INFO
